First Line:
For as long as she could remember, there had been monsters.
Summary:
After surviving an attack from demons and watching her family perish, Reia is shunned by her village. Every ten years, a human offering is made to the Duskwalkers, monsters with magic that can provide humans protection from demons.
When Orpheus, a Duskwalker seeking a companion, comes to the village to cast his protection ward and collect his offering, Reia is thrust into his arms. He takes her back to the Veil, the place where all demons reside.
While Reia plans her escape and Orpheus plans to find his bride, the two descend down a path of desire and love.
My Review: NO SPOILERS
Surprisingly heartfelt and sweet
With this being my first non-human-esque romance, I was not disappointed at all. The relationship between Orpheus and Reia had the butterflies in my stomach come to life. Their interactions were so well written, and I really rooted for them the whole way through. I loved how unique this story was too!
The world-building was so good, the romance was juicy, and the lore was the icing on the cake. I will note that near the end I was starting to skip through pages because I wanted to get to the more interesting parts, so a few times I had to go back because I’d miss something, but other than that this was such a good read!

My Favorite Quote(s):
“Come, little human.” He gestured his hand out to present more of his left arm for her. “Let me melt your heart.”
“Sleep well, my little doe.” Then he left her room, feeling a swell of tenderness and joy in his gut.
