What I Write In a Week: My Typical Routine

My writing process has gained a bit more uniformity over the last couple of months. I thought I'd summarize my routine and what I spend my time writing throughout the week!

Poetry

Contrary to what my social media implies, I don't write poetry every week. Lately I've actually been writing less, because of my mental health and a plethora of time constraints I won't name here.

Realistically, I spend a few hours writing over a period of two to three days. I write mostly to schedule social media, as I have little time to write for myself. I will say, every Sunday, write one to two poems during my hour in the Poetry as Movement Workshop, hosted by the lovely Juliana. It's brought some of the love I've lost to time back, and I'm so grateful for that. Although I sometimes also use those poems for social media, most of them I keep for a future collection.

Manuscripts

I have two major manuscripts I've been working on. One is my rework of Never-Ending Nightmares. Although I'm not writing, I use Tuesdays or Thursdays to work on edits. I'm in my final editing stages and hope it will be complete by the end of the year!

My other manuscript is a poetry collection. That one is slower going, but I also take time on Tuesdays and Thursdays to look over it. I transfer works I wrote during my workshops, make small edits, and add it to the document. My next collection has nothing concrete yet. No theme. No consistency. I'm in the earlier stages, where I add poetry I like to an extensive file, and once I have enough, I'll start thinking more about the finer details.

Short Stories / Other Projects

My time for these projects is a little more sporadic. During my working hours, I dedicate some of my time to these projects. I'm lucky to have a job that allows me a little time here and there to work on my personal documents. An hour or two, three times a week, makes a big difference.

I won't even bother trying to estimate how many mini-projects I'm working on. My brain likes to think up ideas on the fly, and I feel I do each thought an injustice by not putting them down. Just know, my Google Docs is almost full. All 100GB of it! I love my mini-projects. They keep my mind active when I don't feel in the mood to work on bigger projects.

That's all, folks! I hope you're enjoying these shorter posts. I think they showcase how burnt out I'm burnt out, but they're also giving little snippets into my life and days. Let me know how you like them!

Have a lovely, Saturday!
